Growth in the economy and modern public services are top priorities for the Scottish Government. The recently published Infrastructure Investment Plan 2008 supports this objective and demonstrates the Scottish Government's commitment to efficient and fair funding across the country's infrastructure. Through the creation of new funding and delivery models currently under consideration, public services including education, health, transport, the environment and regeneration will benefit from increasingly efficient investment. In this context, the creation of the Scottish Futures Trust will play a key role by maximising funding and reducing costs.
Hosted by the Scottish Government, this important conference will provide a useful platform for the Government to set out and discuss in detail its plans for future investment over the next ten years, and how these will be supported by the Scottish Futures Trust. It aims to engage both the public and private sectors and to ensure that they fully comprehend the structure of the Government's plans and the opportunities that they present. It will also provide a forum in which the public and private sectors can share expertise and exchange ideas.
We invite all members of the public and private sectors with an interest in the Scottish infrastructure investment programme to join us at this important event, which will be opened by the First Minister, Alex Salmond.
I look forward to welcoming you to Edinburgh in May.
John Swinney MSP
Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth
